Getting Back Into The Groove Of Things
After A Nice Winter Break
I’m starting my early-bird seeds like Pansies, Eucalyptus, and Mountain Mint

Mountain Mint
The Mountain Mint species I’m growing is Pycanthemum pilosum also known as Hairy Mountain Mint. I have another species called P. muticum (also known as Clustered Mountain Mint) on my wishlist as well. They’re both perennials in zones 4-8 and native to parts of the USA.

Eucalyptus - (Eucalyptus pulverulenta)

And last but not least: two types of Eucalyptus. I’ve grown both the Baby Blue Bouquet Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus pulverulenta) and Silver Dollar Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus cinerea) and love them both. Of course I’ve got even more Eucalyptus species on my wishlist for future growing seasons.

The Pansies I’m regrowing this year are a hybrid viola called Majestic Giants II Formula Mix. They’re truly majestic giants with 3-4” blooms. Sourced from Johnny’s Selected Seeds, these blooms are “numerous and earlier than other varieties under the low-light and short-day conditions of winter and early spring.” What I’d like to try this year is to garnish some salads with these majestic giants as they are edible!

Each of the type of seeds needs different climates to germinate.
The Eucalyptuses prefer high humidity while sitting on a heat mat while the Pansies prefer cooler temps (62-68 Fahrenheit) to germinate. Neither the Eucalyptus nor Pansy seeds particularly need light to germinate, however the Mountain Mint seeds cannot be covered as they need light to germinate.
Once the seed trays are about % germinated, I remove their humidity domes, take the trays off the heat mats and place them under grow lights.
I have a few weeks between seeding with my next batch being Peppers!
